“Dan’s greatest strength is in taking complex subject matter and years of work and figuring out how to convey it in a matter of minutes in a highly memorable way designed to elicit a strong emotional response on the part of the viewer.”
— Marilyn K. Duker, Executive Vice President, Shelter Development, LLC

Group Two documentaries instruct, energize and enlighten
by providing people and organizations with opportunities
to share their stories.

FROM DAN O'TOOLE:
"I used to run a conventional commercial production company with a large staff, making corporate and institutional programs, doing what everyone else did and doing a competent job of it. As I evolved as a person and as an artist, I began doing work that was completely my own, and focusing more and more on what inspires me and allows me to share that inspiration. I learned how to capture what I experience so that other people can experience the story I see. Eventually I began to focus exclusively on documentaries [mostly] about people and organizations that are doing important work for social change, usually working alone or with one or two camerapeople.

"My greatest talent — and my greatest joy — is the interview. When I talk to people I create an opening for them to share on camera what they think and feel in such a way that the essence of who they are comes alive for the viewer as it did for me. Coupled with this is an understanding of the language of film and what information is needed to tell the story.

"This process is not 'work' to me. It’s energizing and life-giving. I love it and feel lucky to have the opportunity to contribute to people this way."
